Manuela’s updates – She was back.

“When I was about to do the first part of my feeding walk this morning from 5.30 am till 7 am, I saw this beautiful cat again, who I had not seen for about one week. I felt so shocked about this injury on her head but most sadly could not help her in that way by that time as I had to dash to work. She eagerly ate which I saw as a good sign but despite I would love to bring her to the vet. However, tonight I returned to the place where she was this early morning although my return feeding route is a different one normally but…by then I did not see her anymore:(“ - Manuela

Manuela’s updates – After a 2 hour search, we found the poor Sheppard Mix (Update)

Update on the Sweet German Sheppard who was in a bad state. (See older post here)


“After nearly 2 hours of search, my veterinarian and I found THE poor Sheppard Mix who was laying on a sidewalk, so weak and sad. The vet immediately felt that there was a big problem … other than a hundred ticks allover this poor dog-boy. However, my vet drove with him to the clinic. (The dog behaved most perfectly in the car!!) My vet JUST updated me over the phone. The situation is as follows: He made two x-rays and it turned out that this poor dog suffers of a dislocation on his left back joint. Sadly this must have happened already about 4 weeks ago and is a result of a vehicle accident. The dog will have a surgery tomorrow as it will take about 2, 5 hrs and its too late for today, plus, he ate a lot… After his surgery, the dog will have to stay in the clinic for at least 10 days.” - Manuela

Rest in peace little Gizzy

Our heart is saddened by the sudden death of little Gizzy who was adopted in Avsallar and left for a beautiful life in Holland. Our thoughts are with Seline and Manuela. You will never be forgotten Sweet Gizzy.

Manuela’s updates – A big hernia could have been fatal to her.

“Today I brought THIS extremely friendly calico to my vet where she can get her surgery after she suffers from a BIG hernia already for a while. It was not possible to do the surgery before as she got 3 kittens who she would nursed until lately. She gets neutered today as well. This is a photo from BEFORE the surgery…please, have a look how BIG the hernia is. My vet said today that without a surgery she would not have had any chance. THANKS so much to everyone who donated for this surgery some weeks ago.” - Manuela

The homeless dogs in Avsallar sleep on the sidewalks and wherever they can has the weather is very warm this time of year. No one cares for them except Manuela and a little number of locals. These dogs a in danger of being killed, poisoned and worst has most people don’t care about them and would kill them instead of caring for them. Manuela come across a lot of dogs during her feeding days and she feeds them all. But they are in need of loving homes.

“Another huge shock for me… I thought I am dreaming when I had to see earlier on that THE territory of 11 cats was just knocked down today by some construction machines. Sara Ahmadi and Diny Goossens both could confirm that this area counted 11 cats who waited for me day in day out IN those secure bushes until I came by to feed those. And now they took their territory…I can not tell how devastating this is. I now saw only 4 cats in panic as now they have nowhere safe to go. I have no idea where the other 7 are at this moment.” - Manuela

THIS PERFECT GIRL IS EXTREMELY URGENT!!!

This beautiful girl has had a horrible start to her young life. She was left in front of the veterinary hospital COVERED in blood with a broken pelvis and two broken legs. She is not even a year old and has spent the last four months of her life in a crate receiving treatment and recovering from her injuries. After everything she has been through, she is still so loving and purrs nonstop as soon as you enter the room. She rubs up against the crate doors and cries for attention. The staff immediately fell in love with her and asked if she could be one of the lucky cats to return to Vancouver with me. They decided to name her Fistik, which means pistachio in Turkish. She would have no chance on the streets after having a safe shelter and food provided for her for months.

She has now fully healed and is spayed, vaccinated, micro chipped and has tested negative for both FIV and Leukemia.

She is urgently looking for a home where she can make up for the time she’s lost and be a kitten again.

Sara’s updates – We witnessed a young boy KICK and throw stones onto a cat…

“While Manuela and I were feeding the cats in another territory, we witnessed a young boy KICK and throw stones onto a cat about 100 meters from where we were. We noticed that the FATHER of the boy was standing and watching his son. We tried to talk to the father but he did not speak English and just laughed instead. We then called our Turkish animal rescuer friend in Antalya and gave the phone to the man. She then had a conversation with him about his son and explained that Manuela feeds the cats each day and tries to have them castrated. He told her that his son was just playing with the cats. In the end, he did not seem to really care and thought that the situation was funny. We are so shocked and frustrated! Manuela took this photo from a distance.” - Sara

Sara’s updates – URGENT funds and a loving home needed to help this sweet and friendly cat.

“While Manuela and I were preparing everything for our last feeding walk together, we saw this perfect boy at the window like we do each day. Manuela opened the window and he started to come half way in to the apartment. Manuela then lifted him and without any hassle he quickly made himself at home. We cannot believe how friendly he is being because he had never allowed us to pet him before and we had been so worried about catching him. We now have him inside the apartment and are yet again desperate to find another safe and loving home. He will be neutered as soon as Manuela has more funds and can receive treatment for his face as well. Please, please, please help Manuela to help him with his medical expenses as well as urgently finding him a home. Otherwise she will have no choice but to release him back into the streets. We think he may be related to the boy with the sad eyes.” - Sara

Sara’s updates – THIS PERFECT GIRL NEEDS TO BE ADOPTED URGENTLY!

“THIS PERFECT GIRL IS EXTREMELY URGENT!!! She was going to be one of the 5 cats to return to Vancouver with me as her territory is in the worst area. The day that we went to go catch her, she was not there and we had to choose another urgent street cat in her place. Her territory is directly in front of a hotel and busy highway and now that the tourist season has started, she has NO chance to survive!! Manuela cannot catch her alone because if she gets away, she will run directly into the highway and get killed by a car. We tried to post this last night but the internet connection did not work until this morning. I am leaving in a few hours but will be able to catch her with Manuela if we can find her a safe forever home immediately. Manuela can only take her in to be fostered temporarily if she knows there is a home waiting for her as she has NO room in her apartment and already has 4 adopted street cats of her own. We only have a few hours to save her life! “ - Sara

Sara’s updates – White mom his still alive… and she needs a home.

“Shortly after Manuela and I started our daily feeding walk, we went to the territory of the white mom as we do each day and we could not believe our eyes when she suddenly ran up to us!! She was sooo hungry. The last time we saw her she was unable to fully open her eyes and now her skin looks much worse. We could not approach her which is so disappointing because the last time we fed her she ALMOST allowed me to pet her. We will work on gaining her trust and she can hopefully be caught once Manuela has a trap. Unfortunately tomorrow is my last day here and it will be impossible for Manuela to catch this poor mom all alone. “ - Sara

Her babies were taken by the owner of the apartment building complex  were she was hiding and killed.

Sara’s updates – He seemed so depressed and showed no emotion while I approached him…

“One of the most heartbreaking moments I experienced in Turkey was tonight with this poor dog. He seemed so depressed and showed no emotion while I approached him. I offered him both dog food and sausages (which we carry for the feral cats) and he did not have any interest in neither. We noticed that he is limping very badly and is unable to put weight on one of his back legs. The local veterinarian has told us that he would be willing to operate on his leg so we hope that he can have a happy ending because he deserves so much to know what it’s like to be loved and cared for. “ - Sara

Fundraising

Because of our previous donations,
this little kitty is heading for Canada for a
new life of love and caring.

After the wonderful success we have had fundraising for 5 cats to go to Canada we are aiming to raise funds for 5 more cats to go to Canada for adoption ($1750). Also, for an emergency fund for vets fees, transport costs, etc. for the other 90 cats that Adoption in Avsallar tirelessly care for ($1250) as there are currently no spare funds for this.

We appreciate the huge generosity so far in donating towards the wonderful rescue of the cats that are going to Canada to a wonderful new life and would be very grateful to anyone who is able to donate or share this fundraising request.

Cats disappear daily from Avsallar and we know that they are targeted for poisoning and other forms of murder by locals and so are aiming to get as many cats out of this hell as we can. Very few cats survive here for very long. We will keep you posted as this fundraising effort progresses.
