Adoption Time in Avsallar: Standing with Manuela & You Can Too

Manuela cares for over 90 street cats and dogs, often walking for miles to provide food and any urgent medical care and where possible adoptions. In Avsallar cats are regularly poisoned and murdered and Manuela is their only hope.

People have spit on her and thrown things as she carries a 20 pound bag of cat food through the streets. She has pleaded with the mayor to stop his annual poisoning campaign and hosts spay/neutering clinics, working on her own, taking each carrier to the veterinary clinic. She sold her bike to buy more cat food which comes at a very high price of $30 a day. She’s completely broke but she can’t leave the cats behind.

The search is on for responsible, loving homes for all the cats and dogs Manuela hopes to help in coming months. The costs of vaccinations, a crate for air travel, the flight and taxes brings the total cost of adoption for each cat to $300. Any serious inquiries may be directed to us at:

We’re also eagerly looking for travelers flying out of Istanbul to the United States, Canada or parts of Europe who can “escort” animals during future flights until adoptive families can meet them at the airport.

This is a fundraising appeal for all the unforeseen costs of caring for and helping the cats and dogs whose lives are at risk every day in Avsallar. Vets fees are needed almost daily for cats and dogs who have been injured or harmed, or suffer from neglect and disease on the streets of Avsallar. Our main volunteer walks miles every day to care for these cats and dogs who may have abscesses, eye infections, injuries from road accidents or have been deliberately harmed. We would be so grateful for any donation no matter how small to alleviate their suffering and pay for any emergency vet and transport costs.

Our Goal

This blog was created to help the stray cats and dogs of Avsallar, Turkey who are poisoned, beaten, abused, attack and neglected. They are being cared for by Manuela who every day, feeds every single one of them, bring the sick and wounded one to the Vet and try to make their lives a little better. Manuela is doing all this out of the goodness of her heart. She does the work of an entire organization all by herself.

All those cats and dogs are in need of loving homes. You can adopt them through us. We also are in need of donations to pay for the food and the vet.
